Charity Spotlight: The Trevor Project

Will Stringfellow, Staff Writer

The Trevor Project is a 24-hour, American non-profit suicide hot line focusing on helping gay, lesbian, trans, bisexual and questioning youth. The project was started back in 1998 after a short film was made about a boy, Trevor, who was rejected by his friends because of his sexuality, attempted to take his life.

This hotline specifically is aimed at helping queer youths age 13-24 and also providing information to teachers and parents to help them create a safe and accepting space at home and school.

Not only do they offer a suicide hotline. The Trevor Project offers a magnitude of helpful resources, including “Ask Trevor” which is for non-time sensitive questions, “TrevorChat” which is for confidential, live chat for those who are not at risk of suicide, and “TrevorSpace” which is an online social networking site intended for LGBTQ teens.

When reached out to find out more about the charity, they said they were “too busy to provide information” and to “just look through the FAQ and rest of the website.”
