The Spartans winning streak continues as they beat Milwaukee Area Technical College 102-96 on last Thursday night at the Spartan Events Center.
The team got off to a good start as guard Xavior Gonzalez made the first shot of the game. In the first few minutes of the game, forward Immanuel Brown made a wonderful steal to get a layup.
During the first half of the game, guard Davee Flowers started a 8-0 run. Also, forward Immanuel Brown made an excellent move for a layup in the basket. Also, Brown displayed an excellent performance as he scored 22 points in the first half. The team ended the 1st half with a three point lead with a score of 45-42.
In the second half, guard Davee Flowers started a 5-0 run as the team were leading 50-42. During the 15th minute of the second half, Forward Immanuel Brown made an amazing steal then he passed the ball to Flowers for a layup. The team end up with their third win of the season.
Coach Kent Payne gave his thoughts about the team’s win after the game.
“They’re a very good team. Our energy was something that you can’t coach. It’s just the nature of our players,” he said.
He gave his reaction to forward Immanuel Brown’s performance in the first half. “Mannie was terrific in the first half. The best he played offensively all year.” Payne said.
Also, Payne explained how he communicates with his players during the game which is “I get excited. I get emotional from time to time.”
He explains what improvements the team needs to address. “Probably consistency over 40 minutes of the game. Just being consistent and doing things right most of the time.” Payne said.
Forward Immanuel Brown gave his thoughts about the game. “I’m feeling good. We just got a good win. We were struggling in New York but I feel like we’ve gotten better over the course of the year.” Brown said.
Also, he explained the strategy to the team’s wonderful defense. “We practice defense a lot in our practice. That’s really big here at ECC. You gotta defend if you want to play. I feel like we did a good job. We cause a lot of turnovers from our press.” Brown said.
Brown gave his thoughts on how to find teammates in an open area.
“I just drive and kick. We practice a lot of drives and kicks.”
