Student Life hosts the Nacho Ordinary Club Fair
Elgin Community College Student Life hosted their annual Nacho Ordinary Club Fair on Jan. 25 as a part of Welcome Week. The Nacho Ordinary Club Fair gave an opportunity for ECC clubs to introduce themselves to students and staff and demonstrate what their club is about. Clubs advertised upcoming events for the spring semester.
Educators Rising is a club whose purpose is to build a community of future educators.
“Our club’s target audience is definitely future educators or anyone who is considering working in some sort of education field,” said Educators Rising President Cole Thornton. “Future teachers, librarians, school psychologists, and school counselors are all great examples!”
Educators Rising and Association Nursing Students (ANS) hosted a valentine-themed event on Feb. 8. Both clubs gave students the opportunity to make Valentine’s Day cards to send to children’s hospitals.
ANS’ President Gwyn Canlas, spoke about the club, and what they specifically stand for.
“ANS-associated nursing students of Elgin Community College is a club geared towards students in the registered nursing (RN) program (1-4th semesters),” Canlas said. “The purpose of ANS is to promote unity among ECC nursing students, enhance communication between students and faculty, enrich the nursing education experience, promote pride in our school, and serve the community. Active participation allows the nursing student the opportunity to enhance organizational and leadership skills.”
ANS is hosting a Crush for Crush event on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in Building B from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. They also have a World’s Finest Chocolate Bar Fundraiser on Tuesday, Feb. 14, located in Building B from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Phi Theta Kappa honors society also attended the Nacho Fair. We spoke with PTK’s Honors in Action Officer Ely Thompson, who explained the purpose of the club.
“We are an international organization and the honors society of the college,” Thompson said. “PTK helps its members and the rest of the college experience the four pillars of PTK: scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. PTK’s membership helps people receive transfer scholarships, experience with getting involved on campus, and networking opportunities.”
Thompson also gave info on upcoming PTK events.
“We have informational meetings every other Wednesday, our next one [is] this Wednesday the 8th from 2:15-3:00 p.m in B181,” Thompson said. “There is also an all-day Mod Pizza fundraiser on February 8. On February 10, 24, March 10, and 17, and April 7 and 21, we are hosting Middle School Fridays in which anyone can help lead a tour around ECC for the middle schoolers. For Honors in Action, we also have a PTK painting event in B349 on February 22 from 12:00 -1:30 p.m.”
