Clothes full of beauty
Love Your Body Day kicks-off Women’s History Month on March 1
Elgin Community College celebrates Women’s History Month by hosting different activities sponsored by Student Life throughout the month. To start the month off, the annual event called Love Your Body Day was exhibited on March 1 and held in the main hallway of building B.
The activity consisted of designing a T-shirt with a positive message on it with the purpose of empowering women and, most of all, celebrate their beauty, thus promoting values such as respect and self-love. Men and women could participate in the dynamics since the expectation was that each person would wear the shirt during Women’s History Month.
According to Megan Highland, Student Life Coordinator, the committee worked together to plan various different events for the month that celebrate women.
“This all came from wanting to help women feel like they don’t have to be something else or somebody else. We shouldn’t compare ourselves, we should be able to love and respect our own body,” said Highland. “Everybody is unique in their own way, and this day is all about celebrating your own uniqueness and loving every inch of yourself.”
The event was well attended, so much that more tables had to be installed to accommodate the students and faculty members who participated with enthusiasm.
“It felt really great to interact with other students. It was really motivating and there was so much positive energy,” said Brandy Kaminsky, a student of ECC.
To continue celebrating women, ECC will host more events in honor of Women’s History Month, hoping to have the support and participation of the school’s community.
