Bartlett shooting

SWAT Team trucks surrounded a home in a quiet Bartlett neighborhood in the afternoon of Jan. 24 after a man shot a woman, believed to be his wife, who then fled to a neighbor’s home.

The official police report states the man barricaded himself in his single-family home, located on the 700 block of Gardenia Lane. Soon, a few neighbors reported smelling gas, which prompted local officials to send out a report of a gas leak.

Officers entered the man’s home around 4:00 p.m. and located the suspect, who was already dead from a self-inflicted wound.

“I had no idea what was happening,” a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous, stated, “I looked out the window to see SWAT cars and heavily armed men blocking off the street. I went out side and was told to go back in.”

Many residents reported later receiving a text message about a dangerous gas leak and were told to immediately vacate the area after already being told by officers on the scene to not leave their homes.

The gas leak was quickly resolved but local schools were still put on lock down or high alert in the area.

By 4 p.m. police say the standoff was resolved and the neighborhood was safe. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
