ECC’s Observer offers two pathways for membership.

Pathway 1: JRN 134

Want guidance and hands-on training? Enroll in JRN 134. It meets MW from 11-12:15 p.m. Students learn how to find story ideas, conduct interviews, and access public records,. In-class time is also used for students to work on their assignments. Students who enroll in JRN 134 are also members of the Observer student organization. 

Pathway 2: Student organization

Being a member or a freelancer is a great option for those with limited time. The advisor and the editorial team can work with you to craft a customized schedule that fits your availability. Students in this group are encouraged to attend our meetings on Monday from 11-11:30 a.m. in our office in Student Life, B173.10

Here are the possible roles:

• podcaster
• photographer
• videographer
• graphic designer
• translator
• ad sales representative
• social media manager
