This is my second year at ECC and I joined The Observer to meet new people and learn more about the school and community. In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, and watching TV. One of the best books I’ve read is the “The Stranger” by Albert Camus, I think dark chocolate is the most delicious dessert, and my favorite TV show is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

New Genres Art Space is a nonprofit group in Rockford, Illinois with a mission to provide a space for emerging and relevant art. NGAS’s cofounder Jason Judd presented in the Spartan Auditorium on Oct 22 as part of Elgin Community College's humanity department’s speaker series. Judd discussed challenges in the changing art world, and how NGAS plans to address them.

As part of the Make a Difference Week, ECC partnered with Vitalant to host a blood drive on Oct. 14 in Jobe Lounge. Vitalant is a nonprofit organization that collects blood donations from volunteers to be distributed across the country. Each donation of blood has the potential to save 3 lives and took students roughly an hour.

In the B hallway of Elgin Community College members from both groups invited passerbys to write a supportive card to a cancer patient while they enjoyed a free cookie.
