Over 100 people packed the Events Center as the Women’s Spartans lost to Oakton Community College 47-82 on Spirit Night on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

The Spartans got off to a rough start. The team scored only two points in the first quarter. They improved in the second quarter as the Spartans scored 12 points, but it wasn’t enough to end the first half on a positive note.

During halftime, Diego Adrianzen Ruiz, a first-year international student from Peru, shared his thoughts on the game so far. According to him, “it’s pretty good.”

Adrianzen Ruiz answered the question about the Spartans bouncing back in the second half. His response was “I think we can do it.”

In the second half, the Spartans got off to a good start as the team and scored 16 points in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the team tried to keep up with their scoring as they scored 17 points.

Adrianzen Ruiz gave his thoughts on how the team can make improvements in the second half. His response was “They need to attack more physically and move more fastly.”

The student cheer section tried their best to motivate the Spartans but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Spartans to end their seven-game losing streak.

After the game, Spartans Guard Zoey Wilson gave her thoughts about the game.

“I say we did good and keeping up with the team,” she said.

Wilson gave her thoughts on how the team can improve their scoring.

She said, “I say setting screens, passing the ball, moving around and getting into spots.” “Yes, we gotta work on moving the ball around and attacking the basket,” she said.

The team is now 6-17 in the season.

They play at McHenry County College on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
