The men’s soccer got another victory as they beat Moraine Valley Community College 4-0 on Tuesday at ECC Athletic Fields.
They got off to a slow start as the team missed a lot of scoring opportunities early in the first half.
In the 36th minute, midfielder Nick Prus scored the first goal of the game for the Spartans. A minute later, Forward Kevin Aguilar scored his 7th goal of the season as the team took a 2-0 lead.
The team ended the first half with a two goal lead heading into the second half.
In the beginning of the second half, the team missed a lot of scoring opportunities and tried their best to dribble past their opponents.
During the sixth minute of the second half, midfielder Vinnie Aguirre made an amazing shot on the goal but it was saved.
Forward Jairo Sanchez scored his first goal of the season with an amazing free kick in the 15th minute of the second half.
In the 68th minute, midfielder Atlai Gutierrez scored another goal which made it 4-0 Spartans.
Head Coach Dimitri Tsoukalas explains the team’s performance in this game.
“Yeah, they kind of got off to a little slow of a start, probably the first 15 to20 minutes. It took us a few minutes, or the whole time to figure out this game. Then after that, we kind of took over and the scoreline showed.”
He addresses the positives that the team showed during the game.
“I talked about it at halftime, the quality and quantity that we have seen. The starters maybe weren’t getting it quite done, but then the subs who came in, they raised the level, and it helped. That’s how we got two goals right off the bat, just to ourselves.”
According to him, Tsoukalas commented on the team’s effort to score two goals in under two minutes during the first half.
“It was through the subs that was a big reason why. I just talked about it before, where they came off the bench, they came on, they saw what needed to be done. We made a couple adjustments, and they figured it out.”
“That’s a great question, and I’m very superstitious. I think it’s just a different environment, you get to see different people, the other team, and it’s like you know they think they’re just gonna walk through us or whatever, and then we show up and we play again and that’s why we’re undefeated away from home.”
Forward Jairo Sanchez commented on his individual performance for this game.
“I think I did. It’s one of my best games this whole season.”
According to Sanchez, he explained how he reacted to his free kick in the second half.
“I was like, it went in. I was surprised myself to be honest.”
Sanchez stated what the team needs to work when it comes to skills.
“I think a little bit more on communication and just being more supportive of each other.”
The Spartans next game will be against Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday.
