Women’s Basketball loses 46-60 against Prairie State

Sarah Duque scored a game high of 13 points against Praire State College as approximately 30 people sat in the Events Center as the Spartans’ losing streak continued at five.

During pregame, a crowd member, Antoine, had hoped the Spartans would win and end their four-game losing streak. He also said Sarah Duque, a guard, is the best player on the women’s basketball team.

The game began with a rough start as the team committed two fouls during the beginning of the first quarter. Shayne LaRock, a forward, made a layup to start the game, but it wasn’t enough for the Spartans to end the first half on a positive note.

In the second quarter, LaRock was injured during a play and was out the rest of the game.

“I’m sad to see #14 (LaRock) go down,” said Nick Mayer, who attended the game.

When asked his thoughts on how the team was doing, “I think that the Spartans are fouling too much.”

Going into halftime the ECC team scored 17 points.

In the second half of the game, the team improved their scoring as they scored an additional 29 points. Unfortunately, the scoring wasn’t enough as the Spartans lost to Prairie State College 46-60.

After the game, Spartans’ guard, #12 Zoey Wilson, responded about her work ethic during the game. “I feel like I hit the ball well.”

She said to improve ball movement, communicating better with each other and improving their attitudes.

Looking forward, she hopes her team members will “keep their heads up.”
