Women’s Spartans Lose 33-59 to Moraine Valley Community College

Over 20 people showed up at the Events Center as the Spartans lost 33-59 to Moraine Valley Community College in their final home game of the season.

The Spartans started the game with a 6-0 run in the first three minutes of the first quarter. The team scored 10 points in the 1st quarter. In the second quarter, the Spartans scored 5 points and the team ended the 1st half 15-34.

During halftime, student Briana Calandria gave her thoughts about the game. According to her, the team started off strong and they need to come back. She also said that the team can do better in terms of offense.

Calandria gave her thoughts about the communication of the team for this game. According to her, the team needed to communicate more. She’s hoping that the Spartans will win because it’s their last home game of the season.

The team started the 2nd half in the right direction as they scored 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to take the lead. The team ended the third quarter 26-43. In the fourth quarter, the team tried their best to keep with their opponent but it wasn’t enough to get the win as the team ended the game 33-59.

During the postgame, head coach Eumeka Aguado gave her thoughts about the game. According to her, the team was struggling in terms of offense but also scoring is what caused the team to lose.

Also, she said that the team needs to work on free throws. She addressed the team’s strategy when it comes to scoring which is consistency and working on shooting in practice. The head coach is hoping that the team will finish the season with a win.

Spartan Guard Ceili Ramirez gave her thoughts about the game. She said that the team had the right energy during the game but they didn’t execute properly. Her thoughts about the team’s strategy when it comes to offensive rebounds was being in the right position, timing and placement.

According to her, the team needs to work on possession like working on meeting the ball and mental freeze. She’s hoping that the team can turn around for the last game to end the season strong.

The team’s overall record is now 6-22 and their losing streak continues to 12 games. Their next game is on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Prairie State College.
