Alexander’s Cafe: A Feast on 64

Ryan Naughton, Staff Writer

Skip the cereal and treat yourself to some delectable pancakes at Alexander’s Café in downtown St. Charles, located on Route 64. Alexander’s is a newly opened breakfast and lunch restaurant that serves anything from coffee and French toast to cocktails and burgers. Thankfully, there is a good balance between breakfast and lunch menus that will keep you coming back for more. From the beautiful atmosphere to the amazing food, this is a new restaurant that should not be missed for anyone that enjoys good food.

Alexander’s, located at 1650 W. Main Street, is St. Charles’s newest hot spot for breakfast and when you first walk in you can see why. When I went to Alexander’s on a Thursday around 10 o’clock, there were a lot of people already eating, ordering or discussing food. After being seated, the first thing I noticed was the amount of light coming in through the windows. The interior was modern with an earthy feel, thanks to the natural wood and fireplace. The restaurant’s spaciousness could easily hold 50 to 75 people without it seeming crowded. In addition to that vibe, there are TV’s there that can keep you entertained with the world around you.

After looking around for a little bit and ordering something to drink, I decided to order my all time favorite breakfast food: pancakes. However, I tried the Cinnamon Roll Pancake, which was only $8.99. The pancakes mimicked everything about a traditional cinnamon roll, topping it with cinnamon sugar glaze and cream cheese icing. This dish was amazing and would recommend it to anyone that likes this kind of meal for breakfast. For the hefty quantity, this was worth the $8.99. I also ordered a side of extra crispy bacon to accompany my pancakes. Overall, this dish is recommendable to anyone who is thinking about dining at Alexander’s.

After my trip to Alexander’s, I have easily decided that I will be coming back in the near future and hopefully bringing more people with me. Everything about this restaurant was good, from the food to the location to the drinks; easily a 5 star restaurant to go to in the Fox Valley area. However, this is not the only location. There is another one located in Elgin so if you want to get a bite to eat before going to ECC, Alexander’s is a great spot.
