Math: Some love it, some hate it.
Gallup shows that 60% of adults feel challenged doing math while 48% enjoy it.
When ECC students are asked about math there are seen to be similar results.
Ava Johnson says, “It’s fine, but I would not say I enjoy doing it.”
Although she doesn’t love it she works at the Math Lab, helping students get designated with a math tutor and if able to help the students herself. Furthermore, she works at a grocery store as a cashier where she uses math constantly. She is currently on her fifth semester at Ecc and hopes to graduate with her Associates in Arts in the coming May.
Johnson has taken Math 104 but does not plan on taking any more math classes.
On the other hand we have Industrial Engineering Ecc student Josiah Mathew who says, “I really enjoy math because I like the challenge.”
He uses math in all aspects of his life. Inside school he uses math in his math courses and chemistry labs, and outside of school he uses it with home finances.

Ava: “Even though I don’t enjoy math, I use it in my everyday life. I was just playing the game “Honestly” and I had to do calculations in my head to win. I also am always using math to calculate tip percentages.”
Josiah: “Yes I definitely use math in my everyday life. Both inside and outside of school.
