The Illinois Community College Journalism Association awarded ECC Observer students multiple awards earlier this month.
Kai Ribbens took first place for his podcast episode, Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education. Editor-in-training, Daniel Nachampassak, was awarded first place for his sports column on the men’s basketball team. Freelancer, Maral Altansoyombo, won second place for her sports photo of the men’s soccer team.
This March, the team hopes to send a dozen students to the National College Media Conference in San Francisco in March 2026. This will grant them an opportunity to learn about about journalism and receive recognition for their work. Please make a donation to help us reach our goal of $5,000.
